Ten Commandments for Responsible Owners

1. My life is likely to last about 10 years. Any separation from you will be very painful.

2. Give me time to understand what you want of me.

3. Place your trust in me. It is crucial for my well being.

4. Don't be angry with me for long, and don't lock me up as punishment. You have your work, your friends, your entertainment. I have only you!

5. Talk to me. Even if I don't understand your words, I understand your voice and when it's speaking to me.

6. Be aware that however you treat me, I'll never forget it.

7. Before you hit me, remember that I have teeth that could crush the bones in your hand, but I choose not to bite you.

8. Before you scold me for being lazy or uncooperative, ask yourself if something might be bothering me. Perhaps I'm not getting the right food, I've been in the sun too long, or my heart may be getting old and weak.

9. Take care of me when I get old. You, too, will grow old.

10. Go with me on difficult journeys. Never say, "I can't bear to watch it" or "Let it happen in my absence". Everything is easier for me if you are there. Remember, I love you.

Luther came to Pennsylvania for foster care the day before Christmas Eve. Found as a stray, he ended up in a shelter right before the holidays and by the time we picked him up and started him in our direction, he had been through the usual frightening ordeal.

He was skinny and dirty, so submissive and unsure of himself. His coat was more brown than fawn and his outgrown collar had worn away all the fur on his neck. His ears have born the brunt of a season's worth of fly bites. He is less than a year old, but his has been a hard life already.

Luther has been an easy keeper, learns fast, wants to please, loves his crate and his meals, just wants to run and run outside, and then to curl up and sleep. I think he got here exhausted and traumatized by being on the loose and in the pandemonium at the shelter.

Until today (a full month of fostering), he showed no interest in or understanding of toys, try though we have to find ways to get him out of his shell.  He would chew a bone or nuzzle a soft toy, but there was no sense of "play" to be seen. You know that look they get. . . .

Tonight (January 27th), when I went to give him his dinner and allow him some time with me in the kitchen, he wagged out of his crate carrying a big, stuffed animal and actually got in the play pose. You all know me,  I cried. Then I laughed and hugged Luther and we PLAYED. Dinner was a little late, but sometimes playing is more important than a timely schedule.

Luther and the other dogs like him keep me volunteering for Rescue. He is ready for a home of his own now and it is my privilege to help him find the home he should have had in the first place. Just thought I would share the reason for today's celebration. Thanks for letting me ramble.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Luther is still very much a puppy, under a year old. He is very eager to please and would do well in a home where he gets lots of time and attention. Because he is so busy and needs basic training, this boy is looking for a home with no cats and no small children, but he would love a larger female dog as a companion. A secure fenced yard is a must, because Luther apparently spent his early days confined and he loves the chance to run and play. He is great in his crate and learning about house manners.
He really is the best Christmas Present we got, so happy, so responsive and so ready to be part of a family! That is Luther's New Year's Resolution, to find the forever home he deserves.
To inquire about giving Luther a forever home where he is always encouraged to play,
Murray is available in Florida. This handsome boy is moderately sized, beautifully red coated and three years old. Murray has a with a cheerful, loving disposition.
Murray is quite easy going and gets along well with other dogs. He would be fine with a female dog in the household as his companion.
Murray needs obedience training but is very obliging and will be easy to train, as he will do anything for a treat.
For more information about Murray, please contact Mickey Mullen at crossbowbullmastiffs@earthlink.net
Patience came to ABA Rescue as an owner surrender in excellent health. She is approximately 6 to7 years old. Patience has proven to be excellent with people, although she should not be placed with another dominant dog. Her best placement would be an only dog family.
She is one of the most loving dogs (towards human's) that I have had the opportunity to be around. She is full of energy and seems to be very healthy. She loves to go for long walks and play in the yard.
Patience is confident and loves to greet people at the door as they enter the house. She is crate trained and very well behaved in the house. Patience will make a great addition to a home that has some extra love to spread around.
She will be the perfect addition to a home that she will be the only pet. If anyone is looking for a well trained, full of personality (and beautiful) bullmastiff look no further...you NEED to meet and make Patience your family member!!
Should you like more information on offering Patience a permanent home or would like to schedule a time to meet her please contact Ryan at: Mahaneype@yahoo.com, one of our great fosters here in FL, as they are taking care of her until her forever home comes along!
Marley is a handsome 7 yr old red-fawn male.
He is housebroken, crate-trained, obedience trained, healthy, good with female dogs, good with kids, unknown with cats. What more could a guy be but perfect!
He was surrendered by his owners due to their move to HI and they simply could not take dog.
Marley is an indoor dog, fenced yard required. This guy is so very sweet, owner was heartbroken that they could not afford to take him with them.
If you are interested in giving Marley a place of his own as part of your special family contact Barbara Brooks-Worrell at: bbrooks_worrell@hotmail.com or phone: 360-400-2823
St. Nick was abandoned in the snow just before Christmas by his owners who were "tired" of owning a blind dog. He is approximately 10 years old and has a very sunny outlook. He was able to memorize my place in about two days.
St. Nick is house trained and is absolutely no work at all. He snoozes the days away and chews on his favorite bone. He lives for cuddle time. He adores being petted and spooned. He loves cookies. He is a really wonderful dog with great energy.
St. Nick would be the perfect companion for a person who is looking for a dog who is low maintenance, easy to be around and has a lot of love to give.
Nick is looking for a home where he can be the only dog, so that all the leftover attention to give is turned right in his direction. He can sometimes be surprised by another dog who "rushes up to him" so care is needed to protect him from being startled and having to defend himself. He will be most comfortable in a situation where another dog isn't a concern.
His eye condition is untreated Glaucoma. His pain is managed with medication which he does well on. The cost for his medication is about $33.00 per month. Just a dollar or so a day.
To offer St. Nick a permanent home to rest his head, or to get more information about his needs, contact Jewlz Lane at: lovingcarek9spa@aol.com
